Q195 Galvanised Solar Mesh

Description

Q195 galvanised solar mesh combines an electro-galvanised steel core with a black UV-stabilised PVC coating. Buy mesh separately for replacement work, extensions or trade installations where compatible clips and washers are already available.

The 0.7 mm underlying Q195 low-carbon steel wire has an approximately 1.0 mm finished diameter including the PVC coating. Supplied in a 30 metre roll, the mesh is approximately 200 mm wide with a ½ inch × ½ inch aperture. When shaped and secured around the panel perimeter, it helps reduce access by birds, possums and rats, as well as the build-up of leaves, nesting material and other debris beneath the array. Close-fitting corners and overlaps help minimise entry gaps.

Galvanised wire with a protective PVC finish

Electro-galvanisation and the PVC outer coating provide two protective treatments over the steel wire. The black finish keeps the mesh visually discreet, while the PVC formulation includes ingredients selected to support flexibility, thermal stability and resistance to sunlight.

UV stabilisers for Australian conditions

Solar mesh on Australian rooftops faces prolonged sunlight and changing weather. The PVC contains a dedicated UV absorber, a HALS light stabiliser and carbon black to help address this exposure.

The UV absorber helps absorb ultraviolet light. The HALS stabiliser helps interrupt the processes that cause plastics to deteriorate under sunlight, while carbon black provides colour and additional UV protection. This combination is intended to help slow coating deterioration during outdoor use.

Flexible PVC with weathering performance

The PVC has passed a 1,000-hour xenon-arc ageing test using ASTM G155. It also has water absorption of no more than 0.2% over 24 hours using ASTM D570, and elongation at break of 190–240%. This flexibility is useful for coated mesh that needs to be handled and formed around an installation.

These properties support the coating’s intended outdoor use. Accelerated ageing hours do not translate directly into years on a roof; exposure, installation and maintenance all affect service life.
